Minigan Receives USCAA Student Athlete of the Year
Congrats to Derek Minigan - USCAA Student Athlete of the Year!
Norfolk, VA- The United State Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced the 2020 & 2021 Student-Athletes of the Year during its Virtual Student-Athlete of the Year Award Ceremony on April 6th.
The USCAA's criteria for Student-Athlete of the Year is: One player selected as the award recipient each year in each USCAA sport and division. The nomination process allows institutions to nominate one player per sport/division. The emphasis of this award is on academics and community involvement, versus athletic performance. The award winner is selected by a committee comprised of National Office members, board members, and member Athletic Directors.
Congratulations to our very own Derek Minigan for being named this year's USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year for Division 1 Basketball! This is Derek's 2nd year as a B&SC Rochester Bobcat. He is described as, "a model student athlete, excelling in the classroom with a 3.96 average, and is always ready to contribute and participate in the classroom - completing his work on time and at the highest level of standards."
Derek works multiple jobs as a student athlete and is the first to help a teammate, often providing transportation and other support to out-of-town students.
As a soon to be father, Derek has also been a strong campus leader advocating for other students in Rochester each year in the support of affordable education and TAP support. Derek is currently completing his AAS in Business and plans to continue for his BA in Business.
Congratulations to Derek, and all the other 2020 & 2021 Student-Athletes of the Year recipients!
