Bobcats Fall 2–1 to No. 3 Seed UMFK, Eliminated from USCAA Pool B in Heartbreaking Finish
CORAOPOLIS, PA — Sixth-seeded Bryant & Stratton College Rochester fought until the final whistle in its second game of USCAA National Tournament pool play, but a narrow 2–1 loss to No. 3 seed University of Maine at Fort Kent on Saturday brought the Bobcats' postseason run — and their season — to a heartbreaking close. The result left Rochester unable to advance out of Pool B, ending their push for a national semifinal berth.
UMFK struck early, taking a 1–0 lead in the 6th minute when Michael German finished a pass from Christopher McKenzie. The Bobcats weathered the pressure and held steady for the remainder of the half, keeping the match within reach.
The Bengals doubled their advantage less than three minutes into the second half. At 47:48, Kevaun Garwood redirected a service from Nicholas Sanchez-Corea to make it 2–0. Facing a two-goal deficit, Rochester elevated its tempo and mounted an aggressive response.
Freshman standout Yassine Kone, who had been electric throughout the tournament, pulled the Bobcats back into the match in the 64th minute, beating the UMFK goalkeeper to cut the margin to 2–1. The goal was Kone's fourth of the national tournament, capping an impressive postseason breakout.
Rochester pressed relentlessly from that point on, generating six second-half shots and creating multiple dangerous moments. UMFK goalkeeper Boliver Owusu stood firm, turning away each look and preserving the Bengals' lead.
The match grew increasingly physical in the closing minutes, with multiple stoppage-time cards disrupting the Bobcats' final push and limiting their numbers during the last attack. Despite the adversity, Rochester continued to fight, but time ultimately ran out on their comeback bid.
Goalkeeper Louka Carion-Janes recorded four saves, anchoring a defense that held the Bengals to ten total shots and kept the match competitive from start to finish.
The loss ends Bryant & Stratton Rochester's season at the conclusion of Pool B play, where their 1–1 record left them just short of advancing to the USCAA National Tournament Final. Still, the Bobcats' strong showing — including a statement win over No. 2 seed Five Towns and a valiant effort against UMFK — underscored the growth and competitive spirit of a resilient roster.
